How we rate foods
Every food page on GutGraph answers one question: is this food low FODMAP? This page explains where that answer comes from, what a person checks, and what is not checked.

The low, moderate or high rating
The badge at the top of each food page describes 100 g of that food. It is an AI-assisted classification: an AI model rates each food using the published Monash University FODMAP categories and USDA nutrition data, and gives a confidence score. The page shows the “AI-assisted classification” label and that score next to the badge.
GutGraph does not have a licence to Monash's laboratory database, and the per-100 g rating is not checked against it food by food. Foods rated with less than 80% confidence are left out of our food lists and sitemap unless our editor has written their guide, and foods with no clear rating are also hidden from search results.
Serving sizes
Many foods are fine in a small serving and a problem in a larger one, so a rating for 100 g can be misleading on its own. A serving figure, such as “about 10 almonds (12 g)”, appears on a page only after it has been checked: either reviewed by our editor against current Monash University information, with that source linked on the page, or confirmed by independent published sources. Until then the page shows the per-100 g rating only.
Some pages also show a short note written by AI. It is labelled “AI note” and is never used as the checked serving figure.
Written guides and update dates
For some foods, the answer, explanation and questions are written and checked by our editor rather than generated. A page shows a “Last updated” date only when its published answer or serving figure has changed, not when unrelated data behind it is refreshed.
Where AI is used
AI helps classify foods, read meal photos and descriptions in the app, and summarise patterns in a user's own logged data. Anything generated by AI is labelled as AI where it appears. In the app, patterns are shown with statistical confidence based on your logged data.
What we do not do
No page on this site has been reviewed by a registered dietitian or a doctor. GutGraph is a tracking and reference tool. Individual tolerance varies, so use these pages alongside advice from your own healthcare provider.
Corrections
If you think a rating or serving is wrong, email legal@gutgraph.com with the food and your source. We check it and correct the page, which also updates its “Last updated” date.
